Move In Fall 2024

We are just as excited as you are to be moving onto campus for the upcoming school year. Let's review how the move in process will work this year.  Please continue to monitor this page for updates.

Students will arrive on their scheduled date and time at the Green Music Center (GMC), located on the North West side of campus:

New Incoming Freshmen & Transfer Students:

This check-in experience is for those students who are new to the university and will be participating in NOMA Nation Orientation & Welcome Week from August 16- 19.  If you identify as this student type, you will check in on Thursday, August 15.

Current SSU Students

This check-in experience is for those students who are returning to live on campus again or have been attending SSU for previous semesters.  If you identify as this student type, you will check in on Thursday, August 15.  *Residents in this student type can arrive after August 15 and will need to check in at the REACH Office located in the Student Center during regular business hours.

Check-In Information

In order to check-in on your scheduled move-in day, you will need to have an active student ID card.  Incoming freshmen and transfers, if you have not already done so, please upload your photo in the Seawolf Card Management tile accessed on the main screen of your SSU portal at login.sonoma.edu. This should be completed by July 14 so you can pick up your ID at check-in. Returning SSU students, you will be issued a temporary key access card upon check-in and will have until August 31 to get your SSU ID card encoded.

Student who had a complete housing application by June 1 will receive a room assignment by June 14.  Please log in to your Housing Portal and verify your housing assignment as you will need your building name.  Based on your housing assignment, please see the table below for your check-in date and time at the GMC. Arriving at your scheduled time is critical to a successful, fast, and seamless move-in experience.  The following considerations are taken into account when determining the move-in date and time:

  • Number of students in a building
  • Proximity of being able to unload vehicles as close to the building as possible
  • Traffic flow around campus and having students move in around the same time
  • Coordinating ID encoding for student’s room access

Failing to check-in during the window below will likely cause delays for you to check-in and/or we may ask you to return at another check-in day and time. Also, if you arrive on campus to check-in after 3:00 pm, or on the weekend, you will need to check in directly at the REACH Office located on the 3rd floor of the Student Center.

Important Details About Move-In

  • REACH has limited hand trucks and carts, thus we recommend you bring your own if possible.
  • Family and friends are welcome to help you move-in, but please be aware that more people may cause slower access to stairwells.
  • We are trying to coordinate volunteers who will provide assistance during move-in dates/times, but please don't count on this support.
  • Weather conditions during move-in can vary from cool, damp and foggy in the morning, to hot and sticky in the afternoons. We recommend checking the weather before you arrive and planning accordingly.
  • It is critical all incoming students have checked in by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, as NOMA Nation Orientation & Welcome Week Opening Ceremony for all students starts that evening.
  • Continuing SSU students can arrive after August 15 and will need to check in at the REACH Office located in the Student Center during regular business hours.

  • Directions to the Green Music Center.
  • Park in the Green Music Center Parking Lots (Lots L, M, N, and O) and report to the Green Music Center during the appropriate check-in time.
  • Stop at the table to pick up your temporary room access card.
  • Receive unloading and long-term parking information for the rest of the day.
  • Drive from Lots L, M, N, or O to your village for unloading, following the Unloading Map

Temporarily stop your vehicle by your village and unload your belongings.

  • Do not leave your vehicle unattended.

As soon as your vehicle is unloaded, relocate it to Long Term Parking.

Upon checking in, park in Lots L, M, N, and O (it's free during your reserved time) when checking in at the Green Music Center. After your vehicle is unloaded, please move it to Long Term Parking (the specific location is listed on the Unloading Map). To assist all students with unloading, we ask that students please do not park in the unloading zones during the evenings.  Parking Services will not start ticketing until Friday, August 16 at 6:00 am.

Parking Permits: We recommend you obtain your parking permit online. You will need to print out the temporary permit and display it in your vehicle until you receive your decal. Parking permits are required year-round; there are no “grace periods”. All parking regulations, including timed zones, disabled zones and no parking areas are enforced.  Parking permits are available on-line through the SSU Online Services (click on the parking tile).  Parking permits for Fall are available starting August 1. Until you purchase a Parking permit, you must purchase daily passes and park in general parking lots.

Upon checking in, you will be given access to your residence through your SSU ID card or a temporary access card.  This will unlock your front and bedroom door. Temporary access cards will expire so by August 31, you will need to get your ID card activated with this information.

You will need the Door PIN code (available on the Housing Portal week of Move-In) to access the front door of your apartment as well. Your PIN code is a random number generated by our key system and cannot be changed. Store your PIN code in a safe place and do not share with others. PIN codes cannot be given out over the phone.

Mail & Packages Information

Residential Education and Campus Housing (REACH) relies on summer conference group revenue to keep student rent as low as possible.  This means we try to accommodate as many groups as possible over the summer and into August, causing a tight turnaround for summer conferences to academic year student residency. Therefore, we can ONLY accommodate students who need to arrive early if they are required to check-in early due to their employment/connection with a Sonoma State University department or program.

We recognize that you may have circumstances that required you to arrive on campus sooner than your assigned Move-In Day.  We will be accepting early arrival requests June 18 through July 1.  We are not accepting requests after July 1.
